1st Place for Moult at Wellingborough Round 2
Just two weeks after coming third in the Wellingborough Dirt Run, Ali Moult triumphed in very difficult conditions on February 2nd.
Ali put in an excellent time of 1:01:53 to win the 15k race (only slightly slower than the first series race) which was amazing given the wet and muddy conditions of the course. Richard Thompson was the 11th vet home in a time of 1:07:15 again only marginally slower than in round one.
McGowan Receives Captain's Award
Rugby Triathlon Club's most prestigious award - The Captain's Award - was this year presented to Rod McGowan at the club's annual awards dinner on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
On presenting the cup, outgoing Club Captain, Keith Edwards said: "So many members this year have achieved significant personal milestones, six have completed tough Iron Man races, eight the half-ironman distance and more than ever before have raced throughout the country. It has been difficult to choose the athlete of the year, but Rod McGowan fulfilled the judging criteria.
"He has improved massively in the last two years and has moved from being a 'middle of the pack' athlete to an extremely competitive one who consistently runs at the front of races. His goal at the start of the year was to qualify for the World Championships in Las Vegas and through real hard work, dedication and commitment fulfilled this ambition. I look forward to seeing what he can achieve in 2014."
Medal awards were made to those club members who took part in their first Ironman races. This is in recognition of the time and effort required to compete in this long distance race. This year medals were awarded to: Jane Hurt, Stuart Hopkins, Tim Bateman, Paul Collins, Derek Birch and Rob Riddell.

Podium Place for Moult at Wellingborough
Several weeks of rain and the challenge of extremely muddy conditions did not deter three Rugby Triathlon Club members from taking part in the Wellingborough Dirt Run Race Series on January 19.
With 146 competitors in the 15k race the three posted good times with Ali Moult being the third lady home and getting on the podium. Her time was 1:01:36.
Fellow club members Richard Thompson raced in 1:06:25 and Jane Hurt in 1:12:57.
This multi-terrain and multi-distance run race (5k, 10k or 15k) is the first in a series of three races to be held in January and February and is used by many to see how well their winter triathlon training programmes are going.
