Rugby Junior Triathlon Club celebrates its 10th anniversary

A FUN day for youngsters was held at Rugby Junior Triathlon Club to celebrate its tenth anniversary this month.

Children between the ages of 8-16 took part in a series of races and time trials in each three triathlon disciplines at Rugby School Sports Centre.

Juniors competed in distances according to their age groups in swimming, cycling and running and a party was held for their families where they also voted in the new Club committee members for the up-coming year.

The junior’s first ever official training day was set up by the adult section of the club ten years ago on September 10, 2006.

Ian Payne, one of the founding members of the Junior Club and Level 2 Coach for Rugby Triathlon Club said: “The Club has supported a large number of young athletes over the past 10 years and it’s with thanks to the many coaches, volunteers and sponsors that have enabled and contributed to its ongoing success.”

All sessions are run in accordance with British Triathlon’s guidance on the training and development of young athletes and geared towards improving skills, techniques and fitness levels.

The basic requirements to enter the club are that children can swim 50 metres unaided and have access to a roadworthy bike. For more information about the club’s adult and junior sections visit www.rugbytriathlon.org.uk.
