Fun by the seaside...
Last weekend saw lots of racing and competing from Rugby Triathlon Club. We had members racing the local Coventry CC 10m TT, a few adults joining the large contingent of our Junior athletes at Southam Triathlon and Garry Haynes was competing at the Holy Island Swimrun event to name a few.
Anthony Dale, Shane Owen and Derek Hoyle went down to the Cornish coast to take part in the Perranporth Extreme Surf Triathlon. The 3 of them should have been some what alarmed by the word “extreme” in the title… it appears it was quite accurate! The water was a little “choppy” with massive breakers meaning the swim was reduced to 1000m. However with the dustbin lid sized jelly fish in the sea and the incredibly difficult conditions anything over 50m was going to be tough! The 3 athletes did well to get through the swim as many (unsurprisingly) didn’t. After the swim the cycle was a much more subdued affair but the run was “different” with a 3km stretch along a sandy beach and a climb up an 80ft cliff! The 3 gents got home safe and sound and (in hindsight!) enjoyed a different type of event.
Running at the Tough Runner Trail Half Marathon Judith Harper took on the Cotswolds hills from Sudeley Castle. There were 5 big climbs in the 13.1 mile route and crowding on the course resulted in a fair amount of queuing at the beginning but Judith still raced home in 3:08.
This coming weekend is our club race, the Viridian Daventry Triathlon and George Goodwin races at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice for the first time as a Pro – good luck!!
