Middle Distance Club Championship race

Last weekend was the middle-distance club championships at the Cowman. 10 athletes crossed the finish line in Milton Keynes. Matt Glenn and Marinthe de Bokx led the men and women home and will pick up their awards at the end of season awards. The event was a new one for many from the club and was generally received well. The swim was a little weedy but a good bike and run course finished the event well. Conditions weren’t great with hot and humid weather but all of our athletes performed well.

Going long Barry Purves, Gail Purves, Barry Hale, Annette Golawska and Richard Rawnsey took part in the mammoth Prudential Ride London, a 100 mile sportive. The event has 36 000 riders starting in Central London and heading out through the North Downs in Surrey. Given the sheer number of riders and the varying abilities, and big hills, some gruesome accidents occurred which caused diversions and hold-ups and somewhat spoilt the day for some of our club members. Richard picked up his London Classics medal having completed the London Marathon and Swim Serpentine in previous years.

Taking on a slightly different challenge Christine Broughan picked up a 2nd place in her first ever bike race at the European Corporate games! Entering on a whim and riding on a friends bike she raced 40km around a 1km track and finished with an unexpected podium.

The next big club event is the Triathlon Relays Championship – the best event of the year!!
