Weekly round up - Weekend 22/23 June 2019
Club members were out in numbers at the weekend locally and internationally.
Continuing his great season as a professional George Goodwin claimed 5th place at the KMD IRONMAN 70.3 European Championship Elsinore, in Denmark. In a hugely competitive field George posted the second-best run split of the day and finished just over 4 minutes behind first place. George will be hoping to continue his impressive form into the World Championships in Nice in September. Also racing in Denmark were Hywel Davies, Phil Scott and Russ Cager. Hywel finished 2nd in his age group and Russ had a considerably better day out that he had at the Birmingham Triathlon the week before.
Not content with competing in “just” a 70.3 event Greg Ashley went down to Somerset to take part in the Immortal Triple crown. The weekend event consist of a 10Km Saturday morning, an Olympic triathlon Saturday afternoon and then a 70.3 triathlon Sunday morning! The events are based at Wimbleball lake, deep in Exmoor, and as such the routes are all very hilly, adding to the difficulty of the weekend. Greg claimed 2nd in his age group for the 10km run and “enjoyed” the challenge of the triathlons that followed in the chilly water.
Keeping it a little more local 24 club members took part in the Daventry Sportive. Members competed at various distances, most opted for the 70 mile option but some rode the 30 and a few went all out and completed the 100 mile ride including the infamous Edge Hill. Hosted by local cycle club Daventry Cycling club they hosted a great event and fuelled our members and the other competitors with lots of cake!
