The Kate Vanloo & Rugby Triathlon Club Memorial Run.

The Kate Vanloo & RTC Memorial run is taking place  Saturday 15th  January.

We had initially changed the name this year to help us remember all the members who are no longer with us, as we have sadly lost a member in the last year. However we do not want to detract from the special impact Kate Vanloo had within the club and the strong bonds of friendship she created.

Kate was a very prominent member of our club who tragically lost her life in 2016. For those who did not know her, Kate was a club member, a friend, a coach, a committee member and an inspiration to so many. She regularly competed at our club championship races and often won a trophy along the way. The Kate Vanloo trophy is awarded each year to the winner of the national relays and is a reflection of her team spirit, participation and inclusive attitude.  She touched the lives of so many and gave so much back to the club and the local sporting community. She was always smiling.  She was also a regular volunteer at Daventry Parkrun, this is why we use Daventry parkrun as part of our memorial run.
As we have not been able to be together in remembrance  for the last couple of years we would also like to take the opportunity, this year, to remember Nigel and Anna who also sadly lost their lives.

Nigel Bates sadly passed away last year Nigel was a member of Rugby Tri Club for a number of years, he’d be a regular at our swim, run and spin sessions where he’d always put 110% effort into every session. He raced over numerous distances of triathlon up to half iron distance and leading up to his death he was training for a full Ironman. Nigel was very dedicated to his training but always had time to chat and have fun with his fellow athletes and was very encouraging throughout these sessions. He was a great member of our club!

Of course we can also not forget Anna Hodgins who sadly lost of her life running locally. Anna was a runner who had recently returned to running after having a baby. She was a regular participate at track sessions in particular. She was a a bubbly and friendly character and is still missed on Monday evenings.

As a club we are looking for ways to continue to remember all of these individuals who we have sadly lost. For now we are grateful of this opportunity to reflect and remember.

Orange and blue army let’s do them proud.

There are two options for the run. A long run which will start  at The Old Plough, Braunston and taking in Daventry Park run - approx. mileage 10 miles (including park run), off-road (trail shoes and change of clothes advised). The second option is to do just do the park run.

Those doing the longer run from Braunston should be ready to leave the pub car park at 8am. Whichever option you chose, it would be lovely if you can join us for breakfast afterwards at The Old Plough.

This is the booking to include breakfast which will consist of a breakfast roll (either sasuage, bacon or egg) and a hot drink. Toast is also available as an option. The cost is £6 per person.
